Welcome To Hatfield JCR
Hatfield JCR (Junior Common Room) is a student led charitable organisation operating within Hatfield College to provide community and opportunities for undergraduate students.
As the second oldest college at Durham University, Hatfield has a strong sense of tradition and history, however, we don’t take ourselves too seriously!
The College environment offers amazing opportunities to meet students across every discipline and year group and this diverse community is the heart of Hatfield life.
The JCR facilitates these opportunities and by getting involved you can play a part in shaping College life for your peers and future students, making your mark on a community that’s existed for over 175 years. You’ll also gain valuable skills and experience in an open and supportive environment.
The JCR is run entirely for students by students and encompases all our Sports Clubs & Societies, Events, Outreach, Welfare, and much more!
The membership fee you pay at the start of your time at Hatfield goes directly to improving JCR facilities, subsidising events, and supporting our sports clubs and societies.
Sports & Societies
Hatfield JCR offers a wide range of sports and societies such as rowing, rugby, ultimate fristbee, law society, art society, our jazz band, and much more!
With over thirty already established clubs and societies there’s something for almost everyone, but if there isn’t we welcome you to join us and create something new.

Hatfield is a diverse and inclusive community where everyone is welcome to contribute to College life.
Our seven communities run campaigns, debates, discussions, guest speaker events, and much more to raise awareness and promote equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring every Hatfield voice is heard. #ALLONEHATFIELD
Events
Hatfield JCR runs a jam packed schedule of events all year round.
Between our three annual balls, weekly formals, Hatfield Day, live music, pub quizzes, and karaoke nights there’s always something going on, and we welcome fresh ideas to ensure Hatfield events are like no other!
