There are numerous scholarships and bursaries supplied to Hatfield Students, all of which are funded by the Trust. To be eligible to apply for the following opportunities, JCR members must have paid both the JCR levy as well as the Trust Levy.

 

All Year-Round Funds

Hatfield College Fiver Fund

This is intended to provide financial assistance for those undergraduate students who are unable to participate in extra curricular activities as a result of financial hardship. This could cover the cost of club levvys, equipment needed to participate in the club, funding to travel to competitions or any other position where extra-curricular development is being hindered.

Justin Browning Hardship Fund

To help students of Hatfield College who are in need of financial assistance to undertake or continue with their studies, either in the UK or abroad (including those under exchange programmes).

Matthew Fantom Organ Scholarship

An annual scholarship (which may be split between more than one applicant) to the value of £480, awarded to pay for organ lessons. Preference will be given to applicants who are at the relatively early stages of learning to play the organ and who would not be ready to apply for the College Organ Scholarship.

Gant Fund

To support students of Geography at the College who are particularly worthy of support in the College's view, whether that be from a financial or academic point of view. An award up to £5000 each year, either to one student in its entirety or to be divided between multiple students at the College's discretion.

Epiphany Term Funds

Travel Awards

This is available to all undergraduates who wish to pursue humanitarian, educational, charitable or personally challenging activities during the summer.

Within this award there are several specific awards you can apply for:

  • Drinkwater Award: A bursary to the value of £250, will be awarded annually to a student who travels abroad on a project which involves using a language not studied at University. 
  • Howard Phelps Award: A travel bursary to the value of £400, will be awarded annually to a student embarking on an adventurous journey which encompasses humanitarian, educational, charitable and personally challenging activities.
  • Simon McNamara Award: A travel bursary to the value of £400, will be awarded annually to a student embarking on an adventurous journey which encompasses humanitarian, educational, charitable and personally challenging activities.

The applicaiton form will be released in mid-February with 4 weeks before applications close, this is then to be sent to ian.curry@durham.ac.uk and cc hatfield.development@durham.ac.uk Any further questions can be directed towards hatfield.jcrtreasurer@durham.ac.uk

Easter Term Funds

Hatfield History Prize

Four awards to the value of £200 each, to provide Hatfield students undertaking an undergraduate or postgraduate history dissertation, access to books of direct relevance to their dissertation that are not already held by the College library. It is expected that the books will be donated to the library on completion of the dissertation.
